Savannah v. Jacksonville

Savannah’s men took the trip south of the border and took on the 2015 Florida Division 2 semi-finalist, Jacksonville this past weekend.  Savannah took the opportunity to play several players new the club and a few new to the sport of rugby in this match up and in the end came up just short at the final whistle by a score of 36-34.  It was a hard fought contest with the lead shifting hands back and forth several times throughout the game.  Savannah had a 20-19 lead at the half but could not sustain it in the final 40 minutes.   It was a hard lesson to learn for the Shamrocks about the need to travel with stronger numbers to road games and the need for continued improvement on defense for the new players and veteran players alike.  It was very uncharacteristic of the Shamrocks to give up so many points in a match regardless of the level of competition and it seems some much needed training time will have to be dedicated to tackling, holding the defensive line and fitness.

In the end, it was a tough pill to swallow but the club was excited to get so many new members playing time.  Savannah now prepares itself for a home rivalry match with Hilton Head on October 24 in Forsyth Park.  The game will be a double header as the Savannah/Charleston women will host Augusta (2015 #3 team nationally) at 1:00pm in Forsyth Park with men taking on That Island Up North at 3:00pm.
